About Kris

 

• Kris was a Member of the Ilocos Norte Provincial Board from 1 July 2007 to 30 June 2010.
• He was Chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means.
• He was Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Laws.
• His main advocacies were Law & Social Justice, Tourism, Basic Education, Universal Healthcare, Green Energy, Investments, Youth Welfare and Job Generation.
• At the end of June 2010, Kris had authored 51 ordinances (of which 19 were enacted into law), and 36 resolutions (of which 26 were approved).  That translates to a legislative output of  2.4 proposals for every month.
• In December 2009, Kris received the Gawad sa Kampeon ng Kabataang Pilipino 2009 from Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for his legislative achievements as a young legislator.
• He is a lawyer by profession, having graduated from the University of the Philippines College of Law back in 2005.  Having said that, he hates litigation and instead advocates parties to try Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). As a matter of fact, Kris is an accredited CAM Mediator of the Philippine Mediation Center.
• He also teaches part-time in Miriam College, De La Salle College of St. Benilde, and Northwestern University, and is a Naval Reservist with the rank of Captain at the Judge Advocate General Service.
• Kris is currently finishing his Masters in Public Policy at the University of Auckland under a New Zealand-ASEAN Scholarship. He is expected to complete the course in November 2014.
• Prior to entering politics, Kris used to work at the Office of the Solicitor General, Britanico, Sarmiento and Franco Law Offices, and the House of Representatives Protocol Service. Most recently, he worked as Legal Counsel for Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), the largest corporate-led foundation for social development.
• When Kris was UP University Student Council Chair, he lobbied for the passage of a new charter for the University of the Philippines in Congress, and it came true in the form of Republic Act 9500.
• When Kris was with the OSG, he was also tapped to lobby for a new OSG Law.  The bill eventually became Republic Act 9417.
• He is the son of 8-time congressman Roque R. Ablan, Jr. and the grandson of the late Governor Roque B. Ablan, Sr.
• He is married to the beautiful, intelligent and caring Ria Berbano of Alcala, Cagayan.  Their first child, Bea, will turn 5 this February 2015.
• He is also an alumnus of Xavier School and Ateneo De Manila University, and is a member of U.P. Namnama and Upsilon Sigma Phi Fraternity.
• He enjoys traveling with his wife, reading non-fiction books (currently reading Team of Rivals), bicycling, surfing the internet, watching movies and playing slo-pitch softball.
• He loves pizza, hotdogs, chicken inasal, Mcdonald’s Quarter Pounder w/ Cheese, California Maki and his wife’s special marinara angel hair pasta, but is now trying to watch his weight.
• He follows Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, The Amazing Race and How I Met Your Mother on TV.
